Information on H1N1:

There are four types of influenza.  The most common, influenza A, can infect both humans and animals.  Virologists classify these viruses into subtypes based on two proteins on their surface, haemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N).  These are 18 recognized haemagglutinin types and 11 neuraminidase types.  This is how the HxNx connotation is determined.
